Masters Moments

In a poll released by Golf World magazine in January, more than 80 PGA TOUR players weighed in on the tracks they most enjoy playing each year. Not surprisingly, Augusta National Golf Club topped the list of venues.
As patrons of 25 consecutive Masters Tournaments, we never cease to be amazed by the aesthetics of this golf masterpiece … or of the action that plays out among the world’s best golfers on Augusta National’s pristine fairways and greens during the first Major of the season. To be able to spend a week hosting our clients while witnessing some of the game’s most legendary performances on these hallowed grounds, well, what could be better?
The off-course activities during Masters Week 2012 turned out to be just as memorable, thanks to the creativity and attention to detail of the Dallas Fan Fares’ team, as well as the involvement of four truly amazing men.
Following the first day of practice rounds on Monday, our clients spent an entertaining evening with David Feherty.
After dinner and cocktails, the man who serves as an on-course reporter and golf analyst for CBS Sports regaled guests with his charming Irish brogue and world-renowned wit. While golf is his game, Feherty also impressed with his knowledge of basketball, providing commentary and quips (not all of it related to basketball, though!) from his view on the couch as Kentucky and Kansas battled it out for the 2012 NCAA Men’s Championship during CBS Sports’ broadcast of the nationally televised game.
This year’s tournament marked the 28th trip for fellow CBS Sports commentator Verne Lundquist, who—to the further delight of all our guests—recounted some of his favorite Masters’ moments during a meet-n-greet on Thursday night. With his distinctive voice and congenial personality, Lundquist thoroughly captivated his audience as he chronicled anecdotes and heroics from past Masters. The evening also served as the perfect start to the season’s first Major, as the quest for the coveted Green Jacket had commenced in earnest earlier that day.
Throughout the week, as the action unfolded on the course during another historic Masters Tournament, Chef Richard
Chamberlain was applying his award-winning culinary skills to some masterful creations in the kitchen. Considered one of America’s leading chefs, the owner of Chamberlain’s Fish Market Grill and Chamberlain’s Steak and Chop House in Dallas tantalized our guests with savory gourmet dishes, served up hot and fresh after yet another incredible day of viewing and/or playing golf (the professionals weren’t the only ones who were able to take advantage of the great golf venues Augusta has to offer!).
As frequent patrons of Chef Chamberlain’s two four-star restaurants in Dallas (both of which conveniently are located mere blocks from our offices at Dallas Fan Fares, we’re happy to add!), we always take delight in seeing the extremely satisfied looks on our clients’ faces as they indulge in his exquisite cuisine. We thought about trying to describe some of the creations Chef Chamberlain whipped up during our week in Augusta, but decided mere words just wouldn’t do them justice!
From his view from the 14th tower during Masters’ coverage for CBS Sports and insightful interviews with players after their rounds conclude, Bill Macatee has witnessed just about everything Augusta National has to offer during his 23 years of covering golf’s most cherished event. Following brunch on a beautiful Sunday morning in Augusta, the veteran broadcaster offered up his expert analysis as he walked with our fascinated guests around Augusta National’s iconic Second Nine; providing a sense of the Master’s great history and preparing our guests for what was to follow during an epic final round.
From Monday’s practice round to an 18th green ceremony that celebrated a brand-new champion—and all the memorable moments in between—Dallas Fan Fares’ 25th trip to Augusta National for the 76th edition of the legendary Masters Tournament was, by every account, a crowd-pleaser.
And, as it turns out, a guy named Bubba wasn’t the only winner that week.
Would you and your clients like to be treated like champions, too (sans the Green Jacket, of course!), while experiencing the world’s best golfers vie on this hallowed venue in persuit of one of golf’s most coveted titles? Then join Dallas Fan Fares for Masters Week 2013.
